About MELBOURNE CANINE FREESTYLE

Melbourne Canine Freestyle is a demonstration team with performances all across Australia. Well-known as the "Purple People", our team consists of up to 16 dogs. We love bringing smiles to people's faces by performing, training, and most importantly having fun with our dogs!

Our training philosophy is to make training fun, our dogs enjoy working with us and have a solid partnership with their owner/handler.

​Melbourne Canine Freestyle has performed at events throughout Victoria as well as Sydney and Adelaide, including performances at expos, festivals, agricultural shows, Dog Lovers Show, the Royal Shows, and more. Our family-friendly shows are action-packed, fast paced, and fun-filled, consisting of amazing canine tricks, freestyle moves, races, and lots of fun audience participation.

Melbourne Canine Freestyle also provide entertainment at children's parties, aged care facilities, nursing homes, schools, and charity events.

We support APOG - pushing for regulation of Australian pet foods.

Meet some of OUR team

SUE CORDWELL

Dogs: mia & squirt

Sue has been involved with canine public demonstrations with various groups since 1998. In 2005 she founded Melbourne Canine Freestyle.
Squirt is a male Pomeranian who has just joined the demo team and is currently in training. As you can see by his photo, he is very cheeky and full of character.
Mia is a female Border Collie who is also a new addition to the team and loves her cuddles.

janette wilson

DOG: Miss scarlette

Miss Scarlette is a female mixed breed who was rescued from a shelter when she was very young and lonely. And what a lot she has achieved since that sad start in life!
Miss Scarlette is a bright & happy girl who loves learning new tricks and giving cuddles. She is highly qualified in a range of dog sports including Obedience, Dances with Dogs, and Rally Obedience where she has achieved the title of Rally-O Champion!
Miss Scarlette and Janette also love visiting nursing homes and hospitals, where they are approved as Pet Therapists.
Together they make a great team, never apart, and they love to share their passion for dogs and training.

Lydia cOWAN

Dogs: Ted, Xena & Nellie

Ted is a Papillon who is a very cheeky young man & is also a Heelwork To Music Champion, and has competed in a variety of performance sports.
Xena is a Papillon who has boundless energy and is affectionately known as the energiser bunny. Xena is part of the interstate demo team & is in training to participate in other MCF demos.
Nellie is a bright & energetic Tibetan Terrier, who made her demo debut at 14 weeks old as part of the interstate Royal Show demo team. She has since performed at 2 more Royal Shows and the Dog Lovers Show, and will soon be part of other MCF demos.

Rosemary buxton

DOG: peppa

Peppa is a Schnoodle. She has a beautiful nature, is Rosemary's constant companion, personal trainer, and special friend. Rosemary and Peppa love coffee shops and the beach where they walk most days.
Peppa is an obedience dog and has competed in Dances with Dogs as well as strutted her stuff at various shows and community events.

YIN CHOO

Dog: breeze

Yin & Breeze make the paw-fect pair!
Breeze is a female Australian Shepherd who loves learning and showing off her tricks! Together, Yin & Breeze train and compete successfully in obedience, rally-o, dances with dogs, nosework (scent detection), and occasionally agility. Breeze is playful and loving with a sweet, sensitive nature, and she is ridiculously intelligent. This inseparable pair enjoy creating a strong bond through training, going on hikes, and learning new things together.

JANNELLE CARLILE

DOGS: EMMY & TUI

Jannelle has been training dogs for over 20 years and participates in a variety of dog sports including agility, canine freestyle, nosework, rally-o, tracking, treibball, and obedience.
Emmy is a female energetic chocolate Labrador. She participates in agility, canine freestyle, nosework, and rally-O. She enjoys showing off and entertaining people.
Tui is only a young dog. He is a black Labrador and is Emmy's son. He still has his L plates on and loves learning.

KEITHIA coppen

Dog: TOBY

Toby is a male Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is quite convinced he's a furry human and is Keithia's partner in everything she does. Toby loves Dances with Dogs and showing off his many tricks. He assists Keithia with training other dogs when when she is instructing at their Obedience Dog Club. Toby also enjoys his beach & bush walks, swimming, visiting aged care & nursing homes, competing in DWD trials, tummy rubs, and of course his yearly birthday party with all his doggy friends. He has a quirky sense of humour by hiding things from Keithia or jumping out at her from behind chairs.

PATRICIA ROBERTS

DOG: NIKKI

Nikki the female Australian Shepherd came to Pat at 18 months of age, she is now nearly 13 years old and has achieved titles in Obedience & Rally-O. She is also a Tracking Champion and a Track & Search Champion. Nikki is Pat's constant companion and helps Pat teach puppy class at their Obedience club.
Pat & Nikki are currently working to achieve their Track & Search Grand Champion title.

UNA merrick

DogS: LIlLY & MURRAY

Una, Lilly and Murray – what a team!
Lilly the female Blue Heeler was rescued at 8 months old.
Murray is an Australian Stumpy Tailed Cattle Dog, and yes, he was born with his stumpy tail.
They both love doing trick training, rally, obedience, agility, Dances with Dogs and playing games. Both love learning new tricks and are great companions for Una.
